The anticipation surrounding the recent awards show has been intense, notably after host Geoff Keighley shared an enigmatic image of a strange statue. The secret has now been solved. The acclaimed developer is working on a fresh Divinity game.
Revealed to be Divinity, the game was debuted with a audacious trailer packed with striking imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the very descent into chaos.
A Different Direction
Anyone anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. The studio clarified that a third Original Sin game to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not being worked on now.
Nevertheless, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This choice of words implies that the team might be designing a real-time experience rather than another turn-based title. At this moment, we can only guess, as only a cinematic trailer is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is widely praised and many say it sparked the contemporary revival of deep computer role-playing games. These games are defined by detailed worlds, player agency, and deep class systems—qualities that recently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its setting is familiar fare, what makes Divinity apart is the immense freedom bestowed upon the player.
Where many modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is full of specialized paths only possible if you're playing as a specific type of character with a personal story.
The series is also famously permissive, allowing players to improvise throughout the entire experience. Most missions can be completed in multiple ways, often in surprising fashion.
- You might find an answer because you remembered something an animal companion shared.
- Or, you could overcome an obstacle by using the world itself in a unorthodox way.
The Journey Continues
It is this design philosophy that have cemented the series to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games in history. Now, players can anticipate a new entry in this legendary franchise.
